Is ESG Right For Me?

Only a qualified physician can determine candidacy after an individual evaluation. The general educational criteria below can help frame your conversation with the clinical team.

Patients who often discuss ESG

  • Adults with a BMI in the approximate range of 30-40.
  • Patients who have not achieved sustained results with medically supervised lifestyle therapy.
  • Patients who prefer a less invasive alternative to traditional bariatric surgery.
  • Patients currently on a GLP-1 medication seeking a procedural option or considering eventual transition.
  • Patients medically cleared for endoscopy and general anesthesia.
  • Patients committed to long-term follow-up, nutrition, and activity changes.

When ESG may not be appropriate

  • Severe gastric or esophageal disease that prevents safe endoscopy.
  • Active eating disorder without prior treatment.
  • Pregnancy or planned pregnancy in the near term.
  • Significant uncontrolled medical conditions that make anesthesia higher risk.
  • Unwillingness to participate in long-term follow-up.

What to discuss with the clinical team

  • Height, weight, BMI, and goal weight range.
  • Medical and surgical history, including any prior bariatric procedures.
  • Current medications, including any GLP-1 therapy.
  • Family and social context (travel, recovery support, follow-up access).
